Greek theatre

Players, during Greek theatre, had a mask, like people in choirs. Player had a fixed expression and he was very good at using voice and body’s gesturality.
Mask didn’t give the possibility to explain different feelings; so, the player often spoke about his feelings. Mask had ritual, ancient and practical reasons: it was something magic which created a relationship beetween God and men.
For example, Dionysus was venerated by praying his mask. There were also practical reasons because players were only men and they were less than characters.
Mask, like dresses, changed: during 5° century, it was wooden with painted “stucco”, then, Roman masks became more horrible with large eyes and large mouths.
